LuckyScent
LuckyScent & Bogue Profumo
From the very early days The Scent Bars and LuckyScent have been home to Bogue Profumo. Both Franco and Adam have, from the beginning, believed in my work, and there has since developed a special relationship between us that works in many ways.
In 2018 I had the honour of producing a special perfume “NOUN” in celebration of 15 years of LuckyScent. Shortly after, I was asked to create a new perfume “I LOVE YY-Elizabet St” to coincide with the opening of their new New York store. Our tale continues with my decision to make LuckyScent the sole retailer for a bizarre fragrance project “ 0,7738” (aka BELLO) that had a purposefully minimal production. Subsequently in 2023 the perfume “20” was created to mark the 20 glorious years of their activity which also happened to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Bogue Profumo-
Our paths have crossed many times always with great pleasure and fun up to the present day and we are always ready to embark on new exciting and challenging scented adventures.
NOUN – 2018
“When I first sniffed NOUN, I was hit with a dark, dense, impenetrable bouquet that felt as though it had been painted in broad brushstrokes with several familiar accords. No matter how many times I’ve tested NOUN, it has never been a fragrance which has lent itself well to dissection or to my sort of parsing of individual notes. While there are a several specific, highly individualized notes which continuously pop up and occasional glimmers of some others, this is a composition which, for the most part and especially when taken as a whole, feels as though it’s been constructed with big blocks of smell. A quiet urinousness awakens in the base and starts to send out a slightly animalic muskiness up to the top. At the same time, the lavender fades away and is replaced by a mentholated muscle-rub aroma, trailed by a honeyed sweetness. The bouquet is not dirty or skanky, not properly animalic at all, but there are clearly animalic elements at play to create that thick, “dark musk”-like texture and feeling. Swirling abstractly around this central musky-amber core are fluctuating amounts of smokiness, caramel-ish sweetness, and a soft, abstract, warm woodiness which I’m guessing is the sandalwood, though it never reads clearly as such on my skin.” (Kafkaesque)
I LOVE YY – 2019
In Bogue Profumo I Love YY, the fleshy, golden bloom is overlapped with layers of velvety violet, dark syrup, cedar, jasmine and rose. It is hugely, over-the-top gorgeous – the Met Gala of ylang perfumes. Bogue Profumo’s fragrances are Mozartian; individual, conceptual, and baroquely gorgeous. Gardoni drew on some memories of an exuberant New York characterized by “clubbing, big nights out and parties, great exhibitions, key architectural epiphanies and ambitious projects.” Rather than shy away from ylang’s opulence, Gardoni plays with it, taking it in as many directions as he possibly can. This is ylang-ylang squared. I Love YY uses three different ylang ylangs: two distillations from Madagascar and another from a small producer in the Philippines. The effect is a multifaceted rendering of the flower. The opening is bejeweled, as if a dozen related smells were refracting off each other; jasmine-like floral notes and also ripe banana, toffee, vanilla, and breadfruit. In a few minutes, the ylang is met by a sloe-eyed, dark, dusty rose that smells like it was cut from black velvet. Some sweet, toothy notes work their way in: old-fashioned boiled-sweet benzoin, Bourbon vanilla, with its slight booziness, the café au lait aroma of tonka bean mixed with some disheveled sweet spice; muted herbs peeking out quietly from time to time. 0,7738 – 2019
0.7738 aka BELLO if you read it in reverse and upside-down is a limited edition extrait de parfum built on a floral bouquet of ylang ylang, tuberose and jasmine counterbalanced by a sum of resins driven by labdanum and a dense infusion of different wood related materials. 0,7738 is dense and strong with a creamy vibe and a spicy sweet and sour base.
“20” – 2023
20edp perfume matches the 20th anniversary of LuckyScent with a 20% concentration, while it shares many similar aspects, inspirations and raw materials (95% of the formula is the same) with 10edt, 20edp due to its concentration evolves in a completely different result: a mature, complex creation imbued with multiple scent-layers of intuitions and mastered accords. 20edp is not only 10edt at a higher percentage but a project on its own where the link between the two fragrances reinforces the connection between the two subjects (bogue-profumo and LuckyScent) and it shows the infinite possibilities of the perfume’s world chemistry. 20edp breaks the inviolable unit of elements where the robustness of resins and woods bury the past while the composition disperse itself in the sweet quietness of tonka bean and Vanilla lying in a large, infinite green field that suddenly becomes a forest. A deep green fougère fragrance where the impalpable agility of bergamot tickles the spicy-green facets of marigold. The sharp aromatic agility of lavender grows together with the olibanum gravity and the resins splendor. The animality of civet shines from far away playing games with the solidity of amber and patchouli. A subtle and light spirit blows the white flowers lightening the precious woods notes and opening the oud’s pores. Supersonic and rarefied 20edp unveils to the nose the scattered fragments of time and ideas then slowly and in large circles lowers the tone in a rose’s twirls preceding the manifestation of tonka beans and vanilla. 20edp is a digression, a refined flight resembling a feather in the wind but with a straight and precise direction like a bird’s flight. Every part of the substance is extremely small and mobile, like a breath, a whisper.
